Speaker Kogi state House of Assembly , Aliyu Umar Yusuf has said that the house will revisit the tuition fee hike of seventy five thousand naira for indigenes and one hundred thousand for non-indigenes by the management of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba.
The speaker stated this when the management of the institution appeared before the house standing committee on education, science and technology to defend it’s twenty twenty four budget proposal.
The speaker who queried how the institution arrived at the amount said the university management was trying to push the liability of their comfort to the students which was not acceptable.
Also the Deputy Speaker of the house, Paul Enema stressed that the fees was too high for students to afford as they also had the burden of paying for rent outside the campus to contend with.
He advised the instruction’s management to get private sector to construct hostels on the basis of build operate and transfer.
The Lawmaker representing Lokoja one state constituency Bin Ebaiye Shehu Tijjani urged the institution to seek alternative energy sources to reduce the amount being spent on the purchase of diesel.
Earlier, the deputy vice chancellor Administration of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Professor Olusola Jamiu Salihu said the institution would be expanding it’s physical facilities like roads, offices and hostels as well as provide internet facility on campus.
He also said that the institution was partnering with an organization to supply electricity on campus to make it more constant.
The school management emphasized that the tuition fees were increased based on the current economic realities as well as the high cost of diesel.
