Kogi Government to leverage on FG’s Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Programme for job creation

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has reaffirmed his commitment to leverage on the Federal Government’s Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) programme, in order to create more employments and boost the economy of the state.

The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, who represented the Governor, disclosed this at the Fourth Edition of the STI Expo 2020 in Abuja.

The STI is a programme initiated by the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, to contribute to the development of the nation using Science, Technology and Innovation.

The STI Expo is a yearly event where many talented Nigerians whether individual, group, private or public are given opportunities to show-case their inventions.

It is aim at contributing to the development of national capacities in every field of professionalism in order for national STI plans and programmes to contribute to development strategies and improve the competitiveness of the productive sectors in Nigeria.

The governor said that his administration was looking into the possibility of cascading the similar programme in Kogi with a view to exposing the mineral resources and tourism potentials of the state to the outside world.

According to him, the STI programme will in no small measure generate employment thereby enhancing the economy of the state.

The institutions that represented the State at the event include: Kogi State University (KSU) Anyigba which exhibit over 29 products majorly from cashew; Kogi College of Education Technical Kabba which exhibit drying oven, land mour, solar panel charger, among others.

Others schools were Abdullaziz Atta Memorial College Okene, which exhibit electric hand washing machine; Govt Science Sec. Sch., Kotokarfe and Govt. Science School, Lokoja.
