Kwara State Government has read the riot act to contractors handling projects in the state, asking them to brace up and deliver quality jobs or be sanctioned.
The state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Sulaiman Iliasu Rotimi, while inspecting some ongoing projects in the state, condemned substandard execution of a drainage project in Ilorin, the state capital, by a contractors that handled it, promising that, aside sanctioning the contractor, adequate measures would be put in place to checkmate the unacceptable and condemnable action for better results.
The reading of the riot act followed the discovery by the Commissioner of a failed portion in a recently constructed drainage along Egbejila area in Ilorin metropolis by a contractors.
He said: “Such contractors will be sanctioned with immediate effect. I therefore implore the public to continue to be patriotic by reporting to the appropriate authority should they come across jobs that are shoddily executed.”
Engr Rotimi emphasised the need for contractors handling government projects in the state to assiduously work towards delivering quality and sustainable jobs, while condemning poorly executed jobs by some contractors.
“Let me reiterate the efforts of the state government towards ensuring that contractors deliver sustainable and quality projects that will stand the test of time. I thank the patriotic residents for calling my attention to issues concerning quality assurance,” said the Commissioner.
Following the discovery of the shoddy drainage job, the Ministry of Works expanded its monitoring and evaluation team to include members of the Mekunu Forum Agenda to keep the contractors on their toes.
