Kwara: Seven lives lost, many injured in lone auto crash

By Stephen Olufemi Oni, Ilorin

Seven people were reported to have lost their lives, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries, in a ghastly lone crash at Otte in Asa local government area of Kwara state along Ilorin/Ogbomoso expressway on Sunday.

According to the spokesman of the Kwara state Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), SRC D. O. James, the accident, which involved a white commercial Mazda bus with registration number ZUR159XJ, and loaded with 28 people, was as a result of overspending, overloading and tyre burst.

He added that those injured were rushed to the state General Hospital and Geri Alimi Hospital, both in Ilorin, for medical treatment, while the corpses of the seven were deposited at the morgue, adding that the vehicle was handed over to the State Traffic Section at the Police A Division.

He admonished motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to always regulate their speed within the approved limit and never to carry overload in order to prevent recurrence of such unfortunate incident.
