,,,Seeks approval for haulage fees collection
The Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Alh Bashiru Gegu has assured Kogites that the ministry was capable of generating the needed revenues that will lead to the growth and development of the state in 2024 and beyond.
Alh Bashiru Gegu who was represented by his Permanent Secretary, Dr ( Mrs) Hannah Ujah, disclosed this during 2024 Budget Defence on the floor of Kogi State House of Assembly in Lokoja.
According to Alh Gegu, the Ministry has ingeniously created three revenue items which are mining, milling and quarrying fees, adding that these fees would generate tremendous amount of funds for the state government.
Gegu who pointed out that the state has a lot of mineral resources hidden all over the state , appealed to the House to grant the ministry approval for the collection of haulage fees which has been taken over by KGIRS since 2022 till date.
He added that the haulage fee is the major source of revenue for the ministry.
The Commissioner however disclosed that the challenges confronting the Ministry include lack of geological field equipment and problem of under staffing especially the technical staff and security personnel.
Responding , House Committee Chairperson on Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Hon Mrs Ishaya Omotayo Adeleye charged the Ministry to put in more efforts in generating more revenues for the state and assured the Ministry of the support of the House in carrying out their duties.
She also commended the APC led administration of Gov Yahaya Bello who has assured that all illegal minings in the state would be brought to an end .
