WELCOME SPEECH BY RT. HON. MATTHEW KOLAWOLE ON THE AUSPICIOUS OCCASION OF THE FIRST YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE 7TH ASSEMBLY OF KOGI STATE LEGISLATURE.
Distinguished colleagues, it is my pleasure to welcome us all to today’s celebration of the inauguration of the 7th Assembly.
Over one year ago, we were successfully inaugurated as Honourable Members of this Distinguished Assembly. It is imperative, therefore, for us to give all appreciations to the Almighty God who made all our yearnings and aspirations for the good people of Kogi State in the past year a reality to a reasonable extent as well as for keeping us safe till this moment to the best of our abilities.
In the past year, this Assembly has been up and doing especially in making laws for good governance. Irrespective of the various challenges, we have been able to surpass the constitutionally stipulated sitting days and this was possible because of your support and cooperation.
There is no doubt in the responsiveness and readiness of this noble House to continue to support the State through passage of people-oriented and development-focused legislation. We are poised to cooperate with the Executive to develop an economy that is sustainable, smart and knowledge-based, and whose commitment to law and order is unequivocal.
At this trying period of the Covid-19 pandemic, kudos must be given to His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for the proactive steps taken by him that has kept the pandemic away from our State irrespective of concerted efforts of certain disgruntled individuals to paint a different negative picture.
Our people are urged to adhere strictly to the protocol stipulated by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) by maintaining personal hygiene, wash hands regularly, wear face masks, keep social distancing.
My gratitude to all Honourable members for your support and cooperation that have made the successes we have achieved so far possible. I count on further support from you all as we move forward.
Appreciation to all Staff of this Honourable Assembly for your efforts in the smooth running of the House.
It is a privilege for me to draw the curtains on the first session of the 7th Assembly while declaring open the Second Session.
