Kogi Assembly Calls on State Govt to introduce Maritime Courses in Selected Institutions

Member representing Lokoja 1 state constituency, Hon Bin Ebaiya Shehu Tijani has called on Kogi State Government to introduce Maritime Courses in some selected tertiary institutions in the state.
Hon Bin Ebiya Shehu Tijani made this call in a motion he raised on the floor of the House during plenary sitting of Kogi State House of Assembly on Wednesday.
Moving the motion, Hon Shehu Tijani explained that there are a lot of academic and career benefits if maritime courses are introduced in Kogi State Polytechnic, Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara and Kogi State University Kabba.
Accordingly to him, Lagos State has used the territorial advantage to introduce marine studies in some institutions and it has benefited indigenes in no small measures
The lawmaker therefore prayed the House to convey the House resolution to the Governing Boards of such selected institutions to commence the realization of how the maritime courses can be introduced.
He also prayed that the House Standing Committee on Education should monitor the institutions and give necessary advice

Some lawmakers spoke in favour of the motion entitled ” Motion calling on the State Government to introduce Maritime courses in selected tertiary institutions in Kogi State.”
Hon Bode Ogunmola, representative of Ogori/Magongo state constituency who said no knowledge is lost and one seeks for it every day ,said since there is abundance of water in the state introducing maritime courses in some institutions would be of great advantage to the state .
Also Hon AbuOnoru-Oiza Jibrin of Ajaokuta state constituency and Hon Otokiti Zakariya of Okehi state constituency supported the motion by itemizing the benefits to the state and her indigenes

Responding,the Speaker stressed the importance of the bill, saying it would make many to be self reliant after their education when courses relating to maritime are introduced
The House later uphold prayer one and stepped down prayer two ,just as the Speaker directed that there should be more interface on the motion by stakeholders
