Chief (Dr.) Olufemi Smith Johnson Installed as Oluomo of the Yoruba in Kano Amid Honour and Celebration
In a colourful and culturally rich ceremony filled with dignity and tradition, Chief (Dr.) Olufemi Smith Johnson has been formally installed as the Oluomo of the Yoruba in Kano, marking a significant moment for the Yoruba community in Northern Nigeria.
The prestigious title was conferred by HRH Oba Engr. (Dr.) Murtala Alimi Otisese (Adetimirin I), the Oba of the Yorubas in Kano, alongside the revered Council of Chiefs and Directorate of the Yoruba community in Kano, in recognition of Chief Johnson’s leadership, influence, and enduring commitment to unity, progress, and community development.
The coronation ceremony drew respected traditional leaders, dignitaries, associates, and well-wishers from within and outside Kano, who gathered to witness the historic installation and celebrate a man widely described as a bridge-builder and devoted servant of the people.
In his acceptance remarks, Chief (Dr.) Olufemi Smith Johnson expressed deep gratitude to the Oba, the Council of Chiefs, and the Directorate for finding him worthy of such a revered honour. He described the conferment as a sacred responsibility and a call to serve the Yoruba people in Kano and beyond with integrity, humility, and dedication.
“I receive this honour with a grateful heart,” he said. “This is not just a title but a duty to uphold the values, unity, and progress of our people. I sincerely appreciate Kabiyesi, the Council of Chiefs, and the entire leadership for the confidence reposed in me.”
He also acknowledged the presence and support of traditional rulers, prominent personalities, family members, friends, and associates who graced the occasion, noting that their encouragement strengthened his resolve to serve faithfully.
Chief Johnson pledged to justify the honour bestowed upon him by being a worthy ambassador of the Yoruba people, working to promote peace, cultural pride, and collective advancement within Kano and across Nigeria.
The ceremony ended in an atmosphere of joy, prayers, and goodwill, as guests celebrated the new Oluomo and offered blessings for a tenure marked by progress, unity, and lasting impact.
