NMA Moves to Restore Peace as 200 Delegates Meet Over Disqualification Row

In a bid to avert “anarchy,” more than 200 delegates of the Nigerian Medical Association will converge on Abuja Wednesday for an Emergency Delegates Meeting (EDM) on the association’s disputed election process.

The EDM was triggered by the disqualification of candidates for the upcoming ADM and elections, which has drawn criticism from state chairmen, caucuses, and the Committee of Past Presidents in the past two weeks.

Dr. Oreyemi Ifedayo, Chairman of the chairmen , said the meeting aims “to scrutinize these issues and forge a decisive path toward restoring peace, unity, and the integrity of our association.” He confirmed that over 200 delegates have verified attendance.

The Committee of Past Presidents has already met and resolved that the disqualifications be reversed to guarantee a level playing field. By the NMA constitution, the committee’s rulings on interpretation are final.

Ifedayo expressed regret that interventions so far have been disregarded by the President, Professor Bala Audu, warning that the current course “may cause chaos.”

Delegates hope Wednesday’s meeting will end the impasse.
