APC Elders Hail Peaceful Primaries In Omupo Constituency, Back LOD’s Candidacy

Elders and stakeholders of Omupo Constituency in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have commended members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the peaceful conduct of its House of Assembly primaries, describing the exercise as transparent, fair and reflective of internal democracy.
Speaking at a press conference held on Sunday, May 24, 2025, in Agunjin District, the group, comprising representatives from Omupo, Idofian, Ora, Igbaja and Agunjin districts, expressed appreciation to party members across the eight wards for what they described as a “massive turnout and orderly participation” during the exercise.
Addressing journalists on behalf of the stakeholders, Comrade Abdul-Rahoof Bello (Labelabe), said the primaries reinforced unity within the party and corrected long-standing political imbalance in the constituency.
“We thank all loyal and dedicated members of our great party for trooping out en masse during the primaries. Your orderly conduct and commitment to internal democracy were highly commendable,” he said.
The elders noted that the outcome of the election aligned with a long-standing rotational understanding among the districts regarding representation at the Kwara State House of Assembly. They explained that, except for Ora District, other districts had previously produced representatives since the return of democracy in 1999.
According to them, the latest primary exercise addressed what they described as “an unintended gap in fairness and inclusion.”
“It gladdens our hearts that the spirit of rotation and mutual agreement was reflected in the results. This is a step towards fairness and inclusiveness across the constituency,” the statement added.
Presenting results compiled from party agents across wards, the stakeholders declared that Hon. Lawal Olanrewaju David (LOD) emerged as the clear frontrunner in the contest, scoring a wide margin over other aspirants.
They maintained that the outcome leaves no room for ambiguity, stressing that “the people have spoken.”
“For the avoidance of doubt, Hon. Lawal Olanrewaju David has convincingly led other contestants by a comfortable margin. The people have exercised their democratic right, and their choice must be respected,” the group said.
The elders further urged the leadership of the APC at all levels to respect the outcome of the exercise, describing it as the authentic expression of the will of the delegates.
“The sanctity of our collective decision should not only be upheld but respected. This is a settled matter; it is a pregnancy that has already been delivered,” they declared.
Commending the party leadership, the stakeholders also praised the conduct of the primaries across the country under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, saying the process gave all aspirants equal opportunity and strengthened confidence in the party.
They, however, appealed for calm among supporters while awaiting the official announcement of results.
“We urge all members to remain peaceful, calm and law-abiding. There should be no room for rumours of manipulation. We are confident in the integrity of our party leadership,” they added.
Reaffirming their position, the elders described Hon. Lawal Olanrewaju David as the preferred candidate for the 2027 Kwara State House of Assembly election, citing his experience, character and capacity for effective representation.
