Lokoja Traditional Council Mourns First Onogie Afemai
The Lokoja Local Government Traditional Council has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the First Onogie Afemai of Lokoja, Alhaji Zakari Dangana, popularly known as De-Noble Zak.
In a condolence letter dated June 7, 2026, the council described the late traditional title holder as a respected leader of the Edo community in Lokoja and an active member of the Lokoja Traditional Title Holders Council.
The letter, signed by the Secretary of the Council, Alhaji Mohammad Maikarfi Usman, stated that the council received with sadness the news of Dangana’s death, which occurred on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
According to the council, the late Dangana was buried in accordance with Islamic rites in his hometown in Edo State.
The council noted that until his death, Dangana served as the First Onogie Afemai of Lokoja, a position that made him the leader of Edo people resident in Lokoja and a key figure in the traditional institution of the area.
The condolence message was conveyed on the directive of the Chairman of the Lokoja Local Government Traditional Council and Maigari of Lokoja, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV.
The council extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, members of the Edo community in Lokoja, and the traditional institution affected by the loss.
It prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and grant his family, friends and associates the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
The council further described the late traditional leader as a bridge-builder whose contributions to the peaceful coexistence of ethnic communities in Lokoja would be remembered.
