The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kogi West Senatorial District appears to have entered a new chapter of unity following a crucial stakeholders’ meeting convened by Senator Sunday Steve Karimi.
For months, the party in the district had been rocked by internal disagreements arising from the APC senatorial primary and other political developments. The crisis raised concerns among members ahead of future elections.
However, the latest gathering has sent a strong signal that leaders are determined to close ranks and move forward together.
The meeting, held on Sunday at Reverton Hotel, Lokoja, brought together APC stakeholders from the seven local government areas of Kogi West, including the Council Chairmen and party Executive members.
In attendance were party executives, local government chairmen, elected officials, political appointees, women and youth leaders, as well as APC local government chairmanship candidates and members of the State Executive Committee.
The focus was on rebuilding trust, strengthening party structures, and strategizing for the 2027 general elections.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Karimi emphasized that peace and unity must remain the guiding principles of the APC in Kogi West.
He urged members to forgive one another, stressing that no political ambition is worth sacrificing.
“All my life, I have always wanted peace because I want to make heaven. Whatever you have in this world is temporary. When the time comes, God will judge you according to your deeds while you were alive,” he said.
The lawmaker added that political differences should never be allowed to destroy relationships built over many years, noting that every member has a responsibility to protect the party’s collective interest.
Senator Karimi said the meeting was also convened to rally support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“I called this meeting to ensure that members of our party work together for the success of the APC. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election is our first priority, and we must deliver Kogi West for him. The President is doing well,” he stated.
He commended President Tinubu for efforts to address insecurity, including insurgency, kidnapping, and banditry. He also highlighted the proposed establishment of state police as one of the measures being considered by the Federal Government to strengthen security.
The stakeholders also reaffirmed support for Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration.
The stakeholders responded positively to the senator’s appeal, expressing readiness to put past grievances behind them and work together for the progress of the APC.
They pledged to support efforts aimed at strengthening the party and ensuring victory in future elections.
Political observers believe the gathering marks a significant turning point for the ruling party in Kogi West. With various factions now speaking with one voice, the APC is expected to approach future contests from a position of strength.
Party faithful welcomed the renewed cooperation, expressing optimism that it would end months of internal tension and allow members to focus on governance, grassroots mobilization, and delivering the dividends of democracy.
If sustained, the peace initiative championed by Senator Karimi could further consolidate the APC’s dominance in Kogi West.
