As friends, colleagues and well-wishers celebrate Dr. Rahman Nasir Ichanyi, FCA, FCTI, PhD, Special Adviser to the Executive Governor on Internally Generated Revenue and Technical Assistant to the Executive Chairman of Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, the tribute is not just about age. It is about impact.
A chartered financial accountant of uncommon depth, Dr. Ichanyi has redefined what public service can look like when competence meets compassion. He holds the rare distinction of being a Fellow of ICAN, FCTI, FICEN, FCIPMAN, FCICPF, FAISM and FCILR, a Certified Chartered Forensic Auditor, a Student Member of NIPSS, and an alumnus of Lagos Business School. From HND and BSc and MSc in Accounting at Salem University, Lokoja, to a PhD at Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, his academic discipline mirrors the discipline he brought into KIRS.

, Dr. Ichanyi became the quiet architect of Kogi’s revenue renaissance. He introduced data-driven assessment, widened the tax net without burdening the poor, automated processes, and restored investor confidence in the state’s fiscal integrity. The result is a KIRS that is now the envy of many states, a service that collects more, wastes less, and explains itself better to the people. It was this blend of insight, speed of learning, and fidelity to results that earned him the additional mandate as Technical Adviser to the Governor on IGR.
But numbers alone do not tell the story of Rahman Nasir Ichanyi. What has truly stood him out are the noble qualities he carries into every room. “For Dr. Ichanyi, the growth and development of the State is his major preoccupation. He doesn’t chase titles. He chases outcomes. Kogi is better today because he chose to serve with both his head and his heart,” remarked a member of the State Economic Team.
A passionate team player with the loftiest ideals, Dr. Ichanyi is friendly, easy-going, and deeply committed to corporate objectives. He writes, he teaches, he convenes policy dialogues, and he volunteers his expertise to professional bodies and to young accountants who see in him a model to follow.
