The Office of the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, has officially announced the opening of application intake for the third edition of the Students Bursary Award, targeting indigenes of Kogi State enrolled in public tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

In a statement released by his media team on Thursday, Senator Karimi disclosed that the 2026 edition will disburse a total of Three Hundred Million Naira (N300,000,000) in bursary awards to successful applicants. The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the “Win With Tinubu” movement, as part of efforts to support education, empower youths, and bring the practical benefits of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to the grassroots.

The application portal, accessible via https://portal.sundaykarimi.org/registration/, will officially open at 12:00 AM on Thursday, August 20, 2026, and remain active until Sunday, September 20, 2026. Prospective beneficiaries are advised to complete their applications within this one-month window, as only online submissions through the designated link will be considered.

According to the guidelines released by the DSSK Media Team, the bursary is open exclusively to indigenes of Kogi State studying in public tertiary institutions, including Universities, Polytechnics, Monotechnics, and Colleges of Education. The programme is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

However, students in private higher institutions are not eligible to apply. Applicants are also required to possess accounts with commercial banks—including First Bank, UBA, Fidelity Bank, Zenith Bank, Union Bank, Access Bank, Sterling Bank, and Keystone Bank—as accounts with mobile payment banks or fintech companies such as Moniepoint, OPay, and PalmPay will not be accepted for disbursement.

Senator Karimi further warned that any student who fails to upload or complete all required information in the application form will not be considered.

This year’s intervention marks the third phase of Senator Karimi’s bursary programme. The maiden edition in 2024 saw N100 million disbursed to 1,000 students from Kogi West Senatorial District. The second edition, expanded to cover all three senatorial districts of Kogi State, benefited 3,000 students with N100,000 each.

Senator Karimi, who serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Senate Services, has consistently prioritised education as a tool for long-term development. Born in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area, he rose from humble beginnings—graduating with a distinction in Mechanical and Materials Engineering from Kwara State Polytechnic—to serve two terms in the House of Representatives (2011–2019) before his election to the Senate in 2023.

Beyond the bursary scheme, his educational interventions include the ongoing construction of a N160 million Computer-Based Test Centre within his alma mater, reflecting his commitment to positioning Kogi West at the heart of Nigeria’s digital education revolution.

The Senator emphasised that the bursary is designed not only to provide financial relief to students and their parents but also to translate President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda into tangible benefits at the community level. The Federal Government has repeatedly affirmed that education remains the cornerstone of the President’s human capital development strategy.

“Senator Karimi, in collaboration with the ‘Win With Tinubu’, remains committed to the welfare and educational advancement of the youths and students of Kogi West in particular, Kogi State, and Nigeria in general,” the statement read. “This initiative is based on the conviction that investing in students is an investment in the future of Kogi West, Kogi State, and Nigeria.”

Further details on the bursary process will be communicated through the official channels of the committee in charge of the initiative.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to visit https://portal.sundaykarimi.org/registration/ to apply before the September 20 deadline.
