The National Association of Polytechnic Students, NAPS, has commended the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Mr. Tosin Ajayi, for the decision to suspend court proceedings against the Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, until after the 2027 general elections.
Addressing journalists in a press 
conference, the Vice President, National Affairs, Comr. Agada Noah, said the move by the DSS reflects maturity, professionalism and respect for democratic values. He noted that when security agencies create room for political participation without intimidation, it builds trust in the system and reassures Nigerians that the 2027 process will be free and fair.
NAPS stated that the suspension of the case is bigger than any individual because it reinforces the idea that democracy can accommodate opposition and dissent. The association however urged Mr. Sowore to match the gesture with issue-based politics, voter education and clear policy offerings to Nigerians, instead of dwelling on confrontations and personal attacks.
While acknowledging the constitutional right of every citizen and candidate to criticize government, NAPS cautioned against personal attacks on the person of the DSS DG. The association stressed that constructive criticism strengthens democracy, but provocations and insults only distract security agencies from their core mandate of protecting the nation.
NAPS also used the opportunity to commend the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his proactive steps in tackling kidnapping and insecurity in the state. The association specifically referenced the prompt rescue of 15 NYSC corps members and other abducted victims as proof that the Ododo administration is committed to the safety of citizens. NAPS described every successful rescue as a victory for the victims, their families and for Nigeria as a whole.
The student body called on Governor Ododo not to relent but to sustain the momentum and deepen collaboration with security agencies and community leaders until criminal elements are completely flushed out of Kogi State.
In conclusion, NAPS charged all political actors to focus on policies and solutions rather than attacks, while urging security agencies to remain professional and apolitical. It emphasized that politicians should campaign, security agencies should secure the nation, the judiciary should interpret the law, and Nigerians should be allowed to freely elect their leaders in 2027.
