The Kogi State House of Assembly has passed two important bills into law following thorough consideration, deliberation, and clause-by-clause review by members of the House sitting as a Committee of the Whole.
The bills are the **Bill for a Law to Repeal the Kogi State Fire and Rescue Agency Law, 2007, and Enact the Kogi State Fire and Rescue Law and Other Matters Connected Therewith, and the Bill for a Law to Provide for the Prevention and Control of Public Littering and the Defacement of Public and Private Places.
The bills were subjected to detailed scrutiny to ensure their effectiveness, relevance, and responsiveness to the needs of the people of the state.
During the Committee of the Whole proceedings, lawmakers carefully examined each clause of the bills, reviewed their provisions, and made necessary observations and amendments where required to strengthen the proposed laws.
The proposed Kogi State Fire and Rescue Law is aimed at providing a more effective legal framework for the operation, management, and regulation of fire and rescue services in Kogi State. It is also expected to enhance emergency response and improve the protection of lives and property across the state.
The second bill, which focuses on the prevention and control of public littering and the defacement of public and private places, seeks to promote environmental responsibility, maintain cleanliness, protect public infrastructure, and discourage activities that negatively affect the appearance and sanitation of communities across the state.
The lawmakers emphasised the importance of enacting strong and effective laws to address emerging issues and challenges while providing practical solutions to problems affecting residents of Kogi State.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Umar Aliyu, commended members for their commitment and dedication to ensuring that the bills were properly considered in line with legislative procedures.
He noted that the Assembly remains committed to enacting laws that support development, improve public safety, and enhance the quality of life of citizens of Kogi State.
Following the successful completion of the clause-by-clause consideration and review of the bills, the House proceeded to the final stage of the legislative process.
The Kogi State House of Assembly thereafter passed the two bills into law.
