President Bola Tinubu has conveyed heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Saudi Arabia over recent attacks on the country by Houthi militia from Yemen.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Sola Enikanolaiye, made this known when he received the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Nigeria, Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Balawi, in his office in Abuja.
This is contained in a statement signed by Richard Elesho, Special Adviser on Media and Strategic Communications to the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and made available to newsmen on Friday.
According to the statement, Tinubu strongly condemned the attacks and commiserated with the Prime Minister and Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, the government and people of Saudi Arabia over the attacks that claimed many lives and destroyed physical infrastructure and critical installations.
While delivering the condolence letter to the ambassador, Enikanolaiye noted that there was no alternative to peace, urging people in the region to eschew violence.
The minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s principled stance against terrorism and rebel activities targeted at legitimate governments, stressing the country’s commitment to regional and international peace and security.
Responding, Al-Balawi expressed profound appreciation to President Tinubu for his kind words of solidarity and consolation.
The envoy lauded Tinubu’s strong condemnation of terrorist and rebel activities and his unalloyed commitment to peace and security.
He said Saudi Arabia values its longstanding bilateral relations with Nigeria and appreciates Nigeria’s support at a difficult time.
