A public hearing for a bill for the establishment of Kogi state Senior Secondary Education Board has been held at the Kogi state House of Assembly in Lokoja.
Stakeholders at the public hearing welcomed the development stressing that when the bill is passed into law, it would go along way in improving secondary education in the state.
Making a presentation at the public hearing, Executive Secretary, National Senior Secondary Education Commission, NSSEC, Doctor Iyela Ajayi said the domestication of the gazetted law of the Commission by establishing the Kogi state Senior Secondary Education Board would regulate and provide the needed interventions for secondary education in the state.
He said that at the national level the federal government established the NSSEC in twenty twenty two as an infrastructure interventionist commission for secondary education and states where the law have been domesticated were to provide a five percent counterpart funding to benefit from the interventions.
Doctor Ajayi who made fourteen observations and suggestions on the proposed bill said when passed into law would lead to the overall development of senior secondary education in the state.
Former Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Wemi Jones explained that the state government had continued to make efforts at repositioning education so as to make the state a reference point in education in northern Nigeria.
He said the domestication of the NSSEC law to establish Kogi state Senior Secondary Education Board was a welcomed development that would further develop the education sector.
In a remark the Speaker Aliyu Umar Yusuf who lauded the NSSEC, Executive Secretary, Doctor Iyela Ajayi for being a good ambassador of the state stressed that the observations and recommendations presented had made the work easier for the lawmakers.
He said the assembly would do the needful to guard against conflict that may arise between the state ministry of education, Kogi state Science, Technical Education and Teaching Service Commission and the proposed Kogi state Senior Secondary Education Board when the bill is finally passed.
