KWSG Tasks Veterinarians On Ethical Standards

The Kwara State Government has charged Veterinarians in the state to uphold standard veterinary practices to combat zoonotic diseases and ensure wholesome consumption of proteins across the state.

The state Commissioner for Livestock Development, Hon. Oloruntoyosi Ayobola Thomas, gave the charge during at a one-day In-House training for the Veterinary Staff of the Ministry, held at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Ilorin.

Hon Thomas, who was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Yahaya Mohammed, told the participants that government is poised to ensure that standards are maintained at all levels of veterinary practice in the state.

He also tasked the Veterinarians to collaborate with government to sanitise the profession by flushing out quacks in the Veterinary field, while also urging them to meticulously follow the codes of professional conduct that ensure proper and responsible practice globally.

The Commissioner also charged the participants to use knowledge gained at the training to strengthen disease control and eradication efforts across the state.

She assured further, that government would continue to uphold the principle of fairness and inclusivity, to foster trust within professionals, to enhance professional conduct.

The Director, Veterinary Services of the Ministry, Dr Abdullateef Salman Olugbon, had in his remarks, explained that the purpose of the training was to update veterinary staff knowledge and sensitize them on the need to be proactive and diligent at work.

He explained that the training with the ‘Capacity Building for State Public Vets on Professional Conduct and Case Management: “The Cycle of Care”, aimed at bringing practical skills and knowledge for veterinary staff of the Ministry.’

Highlights of the event include thought-provoking lectures on Professional Conduct and Case Management.
