2027: Kwara Assembly Members Endorse Speaker’s Guber Candidacy

Members of the Kwara State House of Assembly have unanimously endorsed the governorship candidacy of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Engr. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), affirming that the Speaker duly emerged victorious in a free and fair primary election held across the 16 local government areas on May 22, 2026.
Addressing a press conference at the State House of Assembly on Monday, the House Leader, Hon. Oba Abdulkadir Magaji, flanked by other members of the Assembly, said it was incumbent on them to debunk the myriad of misinformation and misrepresentation of facts in some quarters with regards to the primary election.
He added: “After due consultations and collective deliberations, we also wish to publicly declare our unanimous support for Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi Salihu as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 General Elections.
“We are confident in his experience, leadership capacity, and vision to consolidate on the achievements recorded by the present administration and to advance the development of our dear State.
Accordingly, we pledge to work diligently across our respective constituencies to mobilize support for the All Progressives Congress and to ensure the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for a second-term, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi Salihu as Governor of Kwara State and all candidates of our great party, the APC in the 2027 General Elections.
“This declaration is done in good faith and reflects our collective conviction and our commitment to the continued unity, peace, and prosperity of Kwara State.
“We, the elected representatives of our various Constituencies in Kwara State have, therefore, considered it expedient to make our voices heard on the matter.”
In the same vein, the Honourable Members, who applauded the federal government’s economic reforms, also assured that they would work assiduously for the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while lauding Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for purposeful leadership and his administration’s efforts towards the growth and development of the State, adding that they remain committed to supporting policies and initiatives that promote progress, stability, and good governance.
He said: “Therefore, we, the Honourable Members representing the various State Constituencies in the 10th Legislature of the Kwara State House of Assembly, today, speak with one voice to reaffirm our unwavering loyalty and commitment to the leadership of His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, Executive Governor of Kwara State, Sardauna of Ilorin Emirate, and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
“We acknowledge the Governor’s purposeful leadership and his administration’s efforts towards the growth and development of Kwara State. As elected representatives of our people, we remain committed to supporting policies and initiatives that promote progress, stability, and good governance.”
Answering a journalist’s question, the House Leader debunked the allegation making the rounds that there was no governorship primary election in Kwara State, saying: “Indeed, there was a primary and it would amount to disinformation and falsehood for anybody to go on air or social media to be saying that. As a matter of fact, a primary election for all the governorship aspirants was held on May 22, 2026 which they all participated in and Speaker Danladi emerged victorious.”
Other House Members, who spoke at the event, described the Speaker as humble, completely unassuming, intelligent and a good ambassador of the youths, adding that the Assembly had in the past seven years witnessed monumental growth and development due to his purposeful and quality leadership, which he would make bare when he becomes the governor in 2027.
He thanked the people of Kwara State for their confidence and support and urged all stakeholders to remain committed to the ideals of democracy, peaceful engagement, and inclusive development.
