Insecurity: Kwara NSCDC Boss Urges Stakeholders to brace up

The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara state Command, Iskilu Ayinla Makinde, has decried the unabated spates of security challenges across the country, urging all stakeholders to be alive to their responsibilities so as to ensure a peaceful and crisis-free society.
He said: “As the country continues to grapple with myriad of security challenges all over the country, I appeal to the people to allow peace to reign and avoid any action or inaction that can thwart the peaceful coexistence of the people in the society.”
The Commandant stated this while declaring open a two-day Seminar organised by the Peace and Conflict Management Unit of the Corps as part of the activities to mark this year’s International Civil Defence Day, holding every March 1st.
The theme of the two-day Seminar is: ‘Roles of Community Stakeholders In Sustaining Harmonious Coexistence In Our Society’, and the main thrust of the Seminar is to sensitise the stakeholders on the consequences of disputes and conflicts on the society. Also, it’s intended to achieve an enabling environment devoid of violence, while educating stakeholders on their roles in sustaining a harmonious coexistence in the society.
The Commandant also seized the opportunity to highlight the core mandates of the NSCDC, including crisis management, protection of critical national assets and infrastructure and regulation of the activities of the private guard units, adding that part of the recent collaborative responsibility of the NSCDC is to mediate in the herders and farmers conflicts, prompting the establishment of the Agro Ranger Unit of the corps.
According to the spokesman of the NSCDC in the State Babawale Zaid Afolabi, the two-day seminar will have some topical issues like peace and conflicts analysis, consequences of violence in our society, place of human right in peace building, among other topics.
