As Nigeria once again jostle towards another round of general elections to elect its leaders, the 2023 political battle may widely be seen that would be the most competitive since the return of civil rule in 1999. At the niche of time, office seekers have started strategizing, realigning and repositioning of their political structures in their various immediate constituencies and even beyond their frontiers with a view to repositioning themselves for the battle ahead. Expectedly, intrigues and political maneuverings have taken the center-stage with the usual factions within the political parties.
The political tempo in Ajaokuta Local Government, no doubt, is gradually building up. The duos have already drawn the battle line, waiting for 2023 to unleash their arsenals against each other.
In Ajaokuta Local Government Area, political observers will attest to the fact that political activities that usually start on a snail rate but rise steeply as elections draw nearer, but this time, the political scenario has changed its narrative, as politicians seeking elective positions in the area have begun strategizing with series of secret meetings and contacts in the different locations of the local government.
Interestingly, the people of Ajaokuta Local 
Government Area, is not left out of the heat and the desire to search for credible, honest, dynamic and result-oriented personalities with impeccable track records of past achievements and a man considered as a brilliant achiever. There is a mysterious aura that always associated to Ajaokuta Federal Constituency elections; the emotions, the political bickering and the conspiracy, are more than meet the eyes.
It is believable that ambition is the blood that runs in the vein of every politician. It is non-stop! Politicians breathe it like air, sleep and wake up with it. They rise to the soft top of their career with it and crash on the hard surface with it. In politics, ambition is the driving force and it hardly dries up until man breathes his last. Politicians, whether they have contributed meaningfully or not in their present and previous positions, are always ambitious of moving to another level in the next election year, but Hon Lawal is not among the failed federal legislator who could not impact meaningful development to their constituency. Alhaji Lawal is among the successful legislators who have contributed and impacted meaningful dividend of democracy to the generality of the people of Ajaokuta Federal constituency.
Is it no more a speculation that the incumbent House of Representatives member, representing Ajaokuta Federal House of Representatives, Hon. (Alhaji) Lawal Idirisu, alias {MTN}, has eventually heeded to the clarion calls of the good people of Ajaokuta Local Government Area to re-contest for third term, to enable him consolidate on the good work he has started in the Lower Chamber of the National Assembly, Abuja. There is no doubt that, the mere mention of his name, “Alhaji Lawal”, sent shivers down the spines of other aspirants in the area, because of his exemplary leadership, political sagacity and unequal achievement.
The mounting and irresistible pressure on this young man to continue, appears to be a strong indication of how the ordinary people in the area want to identify with leaders who has been genuinely demonstrated their passion for the need of the masses. Hon. Lawal, no doubt, has brought new concept and paradigm to the political space of Ajaokuta Local Government, reference could also be drawn to his Novel style of politicking. He is a man of immense personality, courageous and focus. As God on his side, the people of Ajaokuta Local Government are also his political army.
The entreaties on this gentleman, by the good people of Ajaokkuta Local Government to continue for third term, no doubt, would surely be a big moral boost to his aspiration to consolidate on the good work at the National Assembly and effective services he has so far rendered to his people, and to further give them a touch of the stuff he is made of in the legislative responsibility. The people further believe that House of Representatives election and responsibility is never a tea party and not meant for new comer but requires experienced hands of a tested and trusted politician. It does not also and only involve on deep pockets but one with widely accepted across the board, due to his past antecedent of philanthropist goodwill and credible achievement.
At the National Assembly, Hon. Lawal, is among members in the Hallow Chamber, who are “think-tanks”, because their contributions and legislative craftsmanship at the Committee level are what the House actually need to carry out its legislative functions. These are people who either head or belong to sensitive committees of the House, they talk very little but work harder than everyone else.
Upon inauguration into the Lower Chamber, House of Representatives for Second Term in 2015, and to demonstrate the seriousness with which he regarded his mandate, Hon. Lawal redefined the priorities of the constituency he represents, such that infrastructures and human development would reach the remote corners of the area. His revolutionary approach to development has taken healthcare delivery and infrastructural development to the door-steps of the people of the community; good roads, provision of solar power energy and human capacity development, education, etc. etc.
The issue of poverty alleviation has been the focal points of Hon. Lawal’s constituency programme. Through his human empowerment programmes, the youths have not only found succor in life but presently are earning sustainable livelihood.
In order to make women more productive and economically viable. Hon. Lawal, also provide financial assistance to the women across the fourteen (14) wards of the local government, not only to boast their businesses but also to ease their economic burdens.
Interestingly, in order to actualize the dream and fulfilling his electioneering campaign promises to the people, he ventured into water projects. His efforts towards this abandoned human priority over time by his predecessors, Hon. Lawal’s giant stride towards providing water to the people yielded fruitful result as the perennial snarling water crisis in the area have reduced to minimal as a result of his prompt intervention, by sinking motorized boreholes across the 14 wards of the Federal constituency.
One other major achievement of Hon. Lawal in the legislative house, is his involvement in the persuasion of the Federal Government to see the need to revisit the Ajaokuta Steel industry. He has never sleep on the issue of the completion of the steel industry. His credible achievement so far in the legislative House, no doubt, endeared him to the people of Ajaokuta local government.
It should be noted that Hon. Lawal is a man who has undoubtedly established himself as an astute and seasoned politician with influence spread across the local government. Since ventured into partisan politics and election, despite the unholy political bickering and suspicion in the area, he remains popular because he is focused, consistent and dispositions to his people. In Ajaokuta local government today, he has been a pivotal figure with large political followers. He has a “well oiled” political structure in the local government. Undoubtedly, the party that this political pathfinder may belong to propel his political ambition, the party would be fortunate to have someone with political clout to win any election.
One other strong important selling point for Hon. (Alh.) Lawal Idirisu, is the agitation by portion of some political pundits in the area who have come out to support his third term ambition, as he is seen as a liberal, detribalized, experienced and committed politician to the growth of the area. That Hon. Lawal is above all, he has been a model and brand to the yearnings of the need of his people, as these attributes is enough to propel him to landslide victory, come 2023 National Assembly election.
This immeasurable constituency achievement by this young man informed the mounting pressure on him to re-contest for third term in order to further consolidate on these huge legislative achievements. The call on him, in this regard, became louder by the day and irresistible. The people believe that democracy grow stronger when leadership are continuously entrusted in the hands of experience politicians who have compassion for humanity and could further position the life of the people he or she represents, fortunately enough, as a lover and good listener of the people, he has eventually answered the prayers of the people and declared to re-contest under the New Nigeria People Party, NNPP.
Here comes New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP., a party based on the principles of Peace, Equity and Progress. A party formed by men with the interest of the masses; a party made of men with proven character and good track records; men with clear vision and implementable mission, real progressive-minded people, with mindset of equity for all; men that knows what to do at what time and at where.
NNPP is blessed with members that have in no doubt clear the way is forward, not stagnant here in NNPP. The coast is clear, the drivers of the party are experienced and not on the job learners. And now, a visionary leader, the builder of future generation, Hon. (Alh.) Mohammad Lawal Idirisu, is taking the Ajaokuta Local Government to the NNPP to actualize our dreams or more better representation at the National Assembly, as he was returned unopposed by the party at the recent party primary election as candidate for the 2023 National Assembly election in the area.
Hon Lawal’s recent outings on Project Oversight Tour of the 14 wards that comprise the Federal Constituency, the crowd was tumultuous, and it was liken to a political rally. The turnout was impressive with hundreds of thousands of men, market women and youths from various socio-political associations, troops out en-mass to appreciate the House of Rep. Member for his impressive performance in the last three years of his second term in the office.
Interestingly, it is easy to accept that the people of Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, can now see the difference in the leadership style of former Members that have represented the area at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly and the present Member, Hon. [Alh.] Muhammadu Lawal Idirisu, to be able to know how to make a good choice in the forthcoming National Assembly election in the area, rather than submitting to mere political rhetoric.
