Kogi State House of Assembly has been urged to graciously approve the sum of three hundred million naira for the building of an Audit House for the state.
Acting Auditor General for Local Government,
Mr Chris Emmanuel who also appealed to the House to prevail in the Accountant General Office to release approved overhead cost for his office, made this appeal on the floor of the House during 2024 budget proposal defence.
According to him the importance of building an Audit House cannot be overemphasized as conspicuously built in Abuja, Kaduna and also in Lagos, adding that an Audit House in a state shows the independence of the Audit and how transparent and accountable the state is.
Mr Chris, who averred that though the Auditor General for Local Government has good offices courtesy of Governor Yahaya Bello and the Governor- Elect , Alh Usman Ododo, stressed that the importance of building an Audit House for the state could not be overemphasized.
He added that if an Audit House is built, Kogi State will be properly placed and be a point of reference to other states.
The Acting Auditor General who disclosed that the office is short of staff as there has never been employment in his office since creation of the state, appealed to the state government to make permanent and pensionable the appointments of the 40 ad hoc staff who have been assisting the office to meet its responsibility.
