Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Rosemary Osikoya says the state government is repositioning the sector to ensure standard and quality of teaching and learning.
She stated at the budget defence of the ministry at the state house of assembly in lokoja.
Mrs Osikoya explained that the state government was recruiting teachers to address teachers inequality and quality as well as to provide for science, technical and vocational education as prescribed under the federal government’s ten pillar of education for change initiative.
She also explained that the ministry had revalidated many private schools to rid the system of sub-standard schools and issued licences to new ones.
Also defending the budget of the College of education technical Kabba, the provost, Mrs Victoria Olushola-Jagboro said the college was faced with serious infrastructure and environmental issues.
She appealed to the state government to urgently reconstruct the college access road, complete the administrative block and buildings abandoned at the permanent site.
Earlier, the chairman house committee on education, science and technology, Kilani Olusola said that it was only through education as the life wire of socio-economic and political development the state could achieve its maximum potentials.
He said the committee was determine to ensure that all ongoing projects and policies in the education sector were followed to conclusion by constant monitoring and evaluation.
Other institutions under the ministry of education that also defended their budgets include , kogi state university, Anyigba, kogi state Polytechnic, Lokoja, college of education, Ankpa and state teaching service commission.
