The Deputy Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Comfort Nwuchiola Egwaba has urged mothers to be true role models.
She made this remark on Sunday, April 14, 2024, during the Mother’s Day celebration at St. Michael De Archangel Parish, Onyedega; the headquarter of Ibaji Local Government Area.
In her remarks, she itemized some of the lofty achievements and the resounding successes she has recorded as a legislator, to include the passing of the bill to create Petroleum Producing Community Commission, targeted at bringing home the gains of Ibaji being an oil rich region. Secondly, she facilitated the upgrading of about 18 traditional rulers to higher stools in order to give them their pride of place.
It is important to recall here that Hon Comfort Egwaba, is the first female law maker from Ibaji and the first female, to be the deputy speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly.
In her words she said. ” let us be the change that we yearn for, to make our land a better place.” She urged mothers to train their children on the path of righteousness.
The lawmaker lamented on the attitude of some parents who will enrol their young children in schools, in far away Idah, without any form of parental guidance. She said this has led to several child abuses and molestations. She frowned at parents, especially mothers who have the unreasonable boldness to take their young and under-aged children to Idah, to live independently all in the name of education, to desist from such acts.
She promised that she will use all necessary means to revamp the primary education in Ibaji local government. This she said will reduce the menace of under-aged children living alone and being prone to several forms of social vices.
The lawmaker also challenged the teachers in Ibaji to discharge their duties with all sense of diligence and discipline. She frowned at teachers especially in primary schools, who always abandon their duties and concentrate on farming. She said now, salaries are being paid, and there are no justifiable reason for such form of negligence.
She also urged parents to enrol their children in government schools, in order to benefit from the gains and free payment that the state government is embarking on. Especially, the payment of WAEC, JAMB and other examination fees.
The deputy speaker, Hon Comfort Nwuchiola Egwaba finally encouraged all local government workers to be committed to their duties, as the state government will continue to improve their welfare packages till it reaches 100% by July 2024.
The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of an award of excellence, to the deputy speaker, Hon Comfort Nwuchiola Egwaba, for her sterling leadership qualities.
