Member representing Yagba East and House Committee Chairman on House Services that oversees and maintain the Legislative Quarters of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Musa Jimoh Omiata has lamented the poor state of the House of Assembly Quarters located along Ganaja in Lokoja.
The Lawmaker disclosed this in a chat with Journalists at the Namidi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja shortly after he arrived from the United States of American where he went for Yuletide holiday last week.
According to him, it is disheartening to see a place called Legislative Quarters that cannot be compare to that of  Commissioners of the Executive, stressing that the quarters is unkempt due to the lackadaisical attitude of the leadership of both the Legislative and the Executive in the state.
He said the Assembly members in the state are suffering in the hands of the Executive in view of the way and manner the quarters was abandoned since 2016, stressing that the purported renovation carried out few years ago was nothing to write home about.
He said the location is more or less a slum like Ajegunle in Lagos wherein the annual perennial flooding in the state has taken over more than half of the buildings  allocated to the members hence many of them have to source for alternative place to keep their family.
Hon. Jimoh Omiata said the quarters lacks basic amenities a standard quarters should have, noting that there is no steady water supply, the fence and gates are broken-down, no security and no allowance for maintenance.
He also raised the issue of the Honorable Members’ official vehicles which has not been giving to the members seven months after inauguration, pointing out that the attitude of the Executive towards the Legislature is uncalled for but blames the ineptitude of the leadership of the Assembly.
He hopes to see when the autonomy of the State Legislature will commence to right the wrong in the legislative arm in the state.
He condemned the State Government for the total neglect and insensitivity of the Executive by turning the state legislatures to begger.
He also noted that the situation in the Assembly Complex in term of infrastructure is an indication of the level of contempt the Executive hold the legislature in Kogi State.
