Kwara: Rainstorm Wreaks Havoc At NYSC Orientation Camp * Destroys Property Worth Several Millions Of Naira Stephen Olufemi Oni, Ilorin

A devastating rainstorm has struck the National Youth Service Corps’ (NYSC) Orientation Camp at Yikpata in Edu local government area of Kwara State, leaving in its wake large-scale destruction of facilities worth several millions of Naira.

The downpour, which reportedly started early on Saturday, was said to have been accompanied by strong winds that wreaked havoc across the camp premises.

An eyewitness account said: “The extent of the damage is significant. Several key facilities within the camp suffered considerable destruction. Among the structures affected are the Multipurpose Hall, the Administrative Block, the Camp Mosque, and several hostel blocks housing corps members and camp officials.”

It was further gathered that the rainstorm also left a trail of destruction on the camp’s saluting dais and the newly constructed volleyball court, which had been one of major attractions in the camp.

Also, the eyewitness added, two vehicles, belonging to camp officials were completely wrecked after a mighty tree that was uprooted by the fierce winds fell on them, rendering the vehicles beyond repair.

The source added that swift action is expected from the relevant authorities to assess the full extent of the damage for urgent intervention to restore the affected facilities to ensure the continuity of activities at the camp.
