When excellence is consistent, recognition becomes inevitable.

That truth has never been more eloquently demonstrated than in the emergence of Prof. Ejiroghene Martha Umuerri as Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Delta State University, Abraka, a well-deserved coronation of a career built on scholarship, service, and an unrelenting pursuit of the highest standards in health sciences education.

And in stepping into that office, Prof. Umuerri has claimed yet another distinction, becoming the first woman in the history of the College to hold that prestigious position.

The Delsu Medical School Alumni Association (DUMSAA) is bursting with pride. Under the leadership of its President, Dr. Kennedy Oberhiri Obohwemu, the association has risen as one to felicitate with Prof. Umuerri on this momentous achievement, saluting in her a woman who has consistently exemplified the very best of what the Delsu Medical School family stands for.

Prof. Umuerri’s connection with DUMSAA runs deep. As an Honorary Member of the association, she has always been regarded as one of its most cherished and illustrious affiliates. Her election to the provostship now elevates that relationship further still, as she assumes by virtue of that office the position of statutory Patron of DUMSAA, an honour that the association receives with immense delight and a deep sense of privilege.

Her engagement with DUMSAA reached a memorable high point when she graced the association’s 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) as Guest Speaker.

Connecting with alumni and medical professionals gathered from across the world in a vibrant virtual assembly, Prof. Umuerri delivered an address that was masterful in its depth, luminous in its vision, and generous in its spirit. It was the address of a leader fully formed, fully prepared, and fully worthy of the greater responsibilities that destiny was already quietly preparing for her.

Dr. Kennedy Oberhiri Obohwemu, President of DUMSAA, was unequivocal in his celebration of this historic moment:

“DUMSAA is proud, and we make no attempt to contain that pride. Prof. Umuerri is one of ours, and what she has achieved is nothing short of extraordinary.

“To become the first female Provost of the College of Health Sciences is to write your name into history, and Prof. Umuerri has done so with the same quiet authority and purposeful grace that have always set her apart.

“I think back to our 2025 AGM, where she stood before our alumni community and reminded us of the power of vision, dedication, and service. That evening, many of us said to ourselves that here was a woman destined for even greater things.

“Today, those words have become reality. DUMSAA salutes you, Prof. Umuerri. We celebrate you. And we are with you, wholly and unreservedly, as you take the College of Health Sciences to new and greater heights.”

As Prof. Umuerri embarks on this historic tenure, DUMSAA pledges its full goodwill, support, and encouragement.

The association is confident that her provostship will be defined by bold vision, inclusive leadership, and transformative impact, not only for the College of Health Sciences but for Delta State University and the broader academic landscape of Nigeria.

Congratulations, Prof. Ejiroghene Martha Umuerri. History called, and you answered.
