Former Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Prince Matthew Kolawole, is set to formally endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency.
The endorsement is expected to take place on Friday in Kabba, Kogi State, where Kolawole and his supporters are expected to publicly align with the APC candidates ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Kolawole, a former member of the Kogi State House of Assembly and a prominent political figure in Kogi West, is expected to use the occasion to announce his commitment to the Tinubu-Ododo administration and the APC’s candidates across the various elective positions.
Sources close to the former Speaker said the decision followed extensive consultations with political associates, community leaders, stakeholders and supporters across Kabba-Bunu and Ijumu Local Government Areas.
According to the sources, the Friday event is expected to attract APC leaders, political appointees, party stakeholders, youth and women groups, as well as supporters of Kolawole from across the federal constituency.
The development is being viewed by political observers as significant, given Kolawole’s political influence in the constituency and his longstanding involvement in Kogi State politics.
The former Speaker is also expected to explain the reasons behind his decision and outline the political direction he wants his supporters to follow ahead of the 2027 general elections and the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
His endorsement of President Tinubu and Governor Ododo is expected to further strengthen the APC’s political structure in Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu, particularly as the party intensifies efforts to consolidate its support base ahead of the elections.
The development may also generate fresh political realignment in Kogi West, where various political interests have continued to position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
